Texas Walking

"Like generations before us, we have a calling from beyond the stars to stand for freedom. This is the everlasting dream of America — and tonight, in this place, that dream is renewed."

Last night, President Bush delivered.

It's as much a part of his character as his "they call it walking in Texas" swagger.

He spoke of hope and opportunity; liberty and freedom; courage and bravery; and he presented the nation with a detailed vision of what 4 more years of his leadership would mean.

Ignoring the thinly veiled threats of Old Media and the liberal Democrats (pardon the redundancy), he made 9/11 and the War on Terrorism central campaign issues.

The Left were in full panic mode after Zell Miller's speech. They will probably require straitjackets after this -- which is not a bad idea, by the way, given the loonies that are now in the mainstream of their party.

And exactly why is it that, since about October 2001, we have not seen Old Media show images of that September day when our nation was attacked?

Isn't it peculiar that Old Media covered O.J. Simpson for years, but do not see fit to occasionally show clips of 9/11?

They went on for weeks, months and years deluging us with Anita Hill, Rodney King, Chandry Levy, Tonya Harding, Nancy Kerrigan; and now Scott Peterson and Kobe Bryant .. on and on and on.

Yet, only a few weeks after 9/11, all images and video from that day seemed to have vanished from the newsrooms of Old Media.

The television networks, especially, owe the American people an explanation about their decision not to, apparently, ever again show the death and destruction of 9/11.

Congress gave them slices of the electromagnetic spectrum, worth billions of dollars, for free -- in return for carrying broadcasts in the interests of the public good.

So let's see if I have this straight: Reminding us, ad nauseam, of the trials and tribulations of O.J., Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, et al, is in the interests of the public good. Occasionally reminding us of the savagery of our enemy is not?

It's something to keep in mind in the coming weeks as Old Media go all out to try to put John Kerry in the White House.
